I have always loved New York City. It just makes me feel at home. So, whenever I get a chance to be in the city, I never say no. If you are in a layover in New York City or just have a very limited time to enjoy the city, these are the 5 things you can do. You will not only experience the most touristy things but also taste a little bit of how it feels to be a New Yorker.
Explore New York City: Empire State Building
The view from the top of this incredible structure is simply breathtaking. It is one of the best city views ever. My favorite time to go there is around sunset. That gives me the chance to catch a view of the city at night as well.
Explore New York City: Statue of Liberty
This has become a must-see for all the tourists. It is a landmark. Statue of Liberty is visible from quite a distance. The routes to go there is also really easy and straightforward.
Explore New York City: Times Square
At any given time, times square will have thousands of people roaming around. This vibrant part of Manhattan is surely energizing. Every time I travel to New York City, I would go to Times Square and just be there for a while, walk around, look at people and feel the atmosphere. The amount of diversity is just amazing.
Explore New York City: Street food
Feeling like a local is really important for me. Street food is a part of life in New York City. I just love gyro or the lamb over rice. Food cannot be better than that in 6$.
Explore New York City: Subway (Train)
I personally do not know a New Yorker who has not taken the subway. This is what runs the city. If you are in a layover at JFK Airport and have enough time to see Manhattan, take the Air Train out of the airport to Sutphin Blvd station. Then take the E train to Manhattan. If you have not ridden a metro rail in a big city before, you will remember this for a long time.
If you have enough time in hand, there are tons of things you can do in New York City. We will surely talk about them in another story. Till then…
